“What is essential is invisible to the eye.”
In the middle of the desert, a pilot crashes his plane. Stranded and isolated, he tries to fix it alone. Then suddenly, a strange figure appears — a boy with golden hair and clear eyes. The boy makes an odd request: "Draw me a sheep."
From that moment, the pilot spends a long time with this child who calls himself “The Little Prince.” The boy shares stories of his home planet, B-612, a unique rose, and his journey across the stars.
🌌 The Little Prince's Planet and His Rose
The Little Prince lived on a tiny planet. It had a couple of volcanoes, a chair, and most importantly, a single rose. The rose, newly bloomed, was beautiful and proud. She seemed to know she was the most beautiful flower in the universe. Though the prince loved her, her thorns, words, and moods confused him. “Does she love me?” he wonders. “Or does she only cause me pain?”
Eventually, he leaves the planet. Unable to understand her, he sets out to explore the universe, hoping to learn what love and responsibility truly mean.
🪐 The Six Planets and Their Strange Adults
He visits six planets, each inhabited by a curious adult:
- The King – who commands everything but has no subjects. He rules only himself in solitude.
- The Vain Man – who seeks praise but listens to no one, a shell of insecure pride.
- The Drunkard – who drinks to forget the shame of drinking, lost in a meaningless cycle.
- The Businessman – obsessed with counting stars he believes he owns, never knowing their true value.
- The Lamplighter – following outdated orders, lighting and extinguishing lamps tirelessly as his planet spins faster.
- The Geographer – a scholar who records only permanent things, dismissing anything that changes, like flowers.
Through them, the prince sees how adults become trapped in illusions, routines, and systems — missing what truly matters in life.
🦊 The Encounter with the Fox
On Earth, he meets a fox. At first wary, the fox eventually opens up. “To tame,” says the fox, “is to build a bond.” It's not about spending time — it’s about creating meaning. “To me, you're just another boy. But if you tame me, you'll be unique in all the world.”
Through the fox, the prince finally understands his rose. She isn’t just any rose — she is his rose. He watered her, protected her, and listened to her. That care made her special. Before saying goodbye, the fox gives him one last message: “What is essential is invisible to the eye.”
🌄 The Last Night in the Desert
As the pilot fixes his plane, the prince decides to return to his rose. But returning isn’t simple. He chooses to let a snake bite him — leaving his physical body behind to go back to his star. The pilot tries to stop him, but the prince says gently, “My body is too heavy. I won’t need it where I’m going.”
That night, the Little Prince quietly falls to the sand. And somewhere in the sky, a star begins to shine.
🌠 The Stars Are Laughing
The pilot is eventually rescued. But even after returning home, he looks up at the stars differently. No longer just distant lights, the stars now hold laughter. Somewhere up there, a little boy is laughing — and the stars echo his joy.
“When you look at the sky at night, it will be as if all the stars are laughing.”
💫 What This Book Tells Us
- Love is born when we care for the invisible things with our hearts.
- Growing up often means losing our imagination and innocence — but we must strive not to.
- The most precious things are often close by, yet easily forgotten.
